Committees

Each one of our committees assists the mission of AUMF with focused expertise.

Community Outreach Committee
Chiatogu Onyewu, M.D., Ph.D.

 

The purpose of this committee is to increase the number of minorities in science fields through community involvement. Particular efforts will be made to bring science-based learning experiences and career development opportunities to children and young adults as well as establish community based initiatives that promote academic achievement in science.

External Affairs Committee
Matthew Walker III, Ph.D.

 

The External Affairs Committee reports to the Association body its recommendations concerning image-building and celebration of the accomplishments of The Association and its Members. This committee is also responsible for linking in with other institutions/organizations and communicating with the Consortium of Organizations Concerned with Minorities in Science and Biomedical Research.

Heritage Committee
Maya Matheny

 

The purpose of this committee is to provide a living history of the AUMF that will serve as an account, reference, and repository of organizational achievements and provide greater understanding of the AUMF among the general membership.

Membership Committee
Emmitt Jolly, Ph.D.

 

The purpose of this committee is to develop and maintain a functional membership contact list, increase AUMF general membership participation, and provide recommendations to the board of directors regarding AUMF membership guidelines and regional boundaries.

MRL-AUMF Science Symposia Committee
Lisan Parker, Ph.D.

 

The purpose of this committee is to provide a specific forum to initiate and allow Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) to re-establish connections with externally funded minority scientists.

Newsletter Committee
Marcus B. Jones, Ph.D.

 

The Association of UNCF/Merck Fellows Newsletter will serve as a conduit by which the experiences of UNCF/Merck Fellows can be shared with the general membership.

Visiting Science Scholars Program Committee
Enock Delaporte, Ph.D.


Web Resource Committee
Kafui Dzirasa, M.D. Ph.D.

 

The Web Resource committee will be working to assist Dr. Bryant in the development of web based resources for the Association of UNCF/Merck Fellows. During the course of the next year, the committee will focus on designing high utilization tools for fellows and recruiting fellows to participate in the online Virtual network.
